Over the years the traditional core business of SPS which is primarily to support Sabah Tourism initiative in organising the state tourism events, promotion of handicrafts & local products and the publication of the Sabah Tourism Bulletin.

As been explained, the revenue gain from all these activities are sufficient however cannot cover the high expenses of operating the company without the financial allocation from Sabah Tourism Board.

With the approval of venturing to other business AND investing on the company’s capital funds, we hope to gain enough income to BE INLINE WITH THE DIRECTIVE OF self sustaining AS WELL AS BE PART OF THE INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE TOURISM IN THE INDUSTRY

Who We Are

STB’s wholly-owned subsidiary company, Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd. or SPS as it is often referred as, was established in 1977 as Sri Pelancungan Hornbill Sdn. Bhd. and reactivated and restructured in 2001 as Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd. (SPS) to supplement and  complement the roles of STB in promoting and supporting the State’s tourism industry. With STB focusing on its main activities of tourism marketing, promotion and research, SPS’s focuses are in the areas of event organisation, communications via publicity and publications and the promotion, supply and sale of local handicrafts.

SPS operates with four (4) main departments: Finance & Administration, Event Management, Publicity & Publication and Trade & Merchandise.

SPS plays a vital role in organising and promoting events for STB, including the annual Sabah Fest and Mt. Kinabalu International Climbathon to name a few.

The organisation is also responsible for the production of STB’s official monthly tourism publication, ‘Sabah Malaysian Borneo’ (SMB) magazine. The magazine was introduced in March 2001 and features highlights and happenings around state while promoting various places of interest. The SMB can be found at the STB and SPS Tourist Information Counters, hotels, libraries, restaurants, and even carried on-board selected Air Asia and MASwings flights. Other publicity work include radio and television promotions and design of collaterals, promotional material and billboards for STB.

The Trade & Merchandise Department of SPS also runs Kadaiku, the company’s own souvenir and handicraft which proudly carries 100% authentic Sabahan merchandise. SPS also sources and supplies handicraft to interested parties for various purposes including corporate gatherings and MICE exhibitions. In the production of new handicraft items, SPS works closely with rural suppliers in assisting and creating business opportunities for the creating supply and sales of new items

Our History

Location at Sinsuran Complex, Kota Kinabalu. The company soon after cease operation (dates and reason N/A).[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”1992″]Revived operation however to sell local handicrafts only. Location moved to Sabah Tourism Board building at Gaya Street.[/icon_timeline_item][icon_timeline_item time_title=”2001″]Restructured and change the name to Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd. (SPS) and moved back to Sinsuran Complex, Kota Kinabalu.[/icon_timeline_item][/icon_timeline]
